With the UK festival season well under way and as festivalgoers are spending weekends dancing away to all the big headliners, keeping clean and hygienic isn’t easy!

At a festival you can’t avoid picking up a fair few germs, some of which might even make you feel unwell. Therefore Cleanipedia have put together some tips and tricks on how to keep clean at festivals, so you can have the best experience and stay fresh throughout.

Removing stubborn glitter

Getting glittered-up can really enhance your festival experience, but you might come to regret the decision when trying to remove it at the end of the night. It’s important to know how to safely bid farewell to those stubborn sparkles, and remember to do so outside your tent to avoid it hanging around for years to come.

To remove glitter from your skin, simply grab a cotton pad and generously apply natural oils (such as coconut oil, or even a neutral vegetable oil in a pinch!), then dispose of it in the bin. And if your clothes fall victim to the shimmer – fear not – as a lint roller will work wonders, or just grab some trusty tape.

Remember to nurture your skin

When you’re caught up in the festival spirit it’s easy to overlook proper skincare, but we’ve got you covered. Wet wipes, dry soap, and dry shampoo are your festival BFFs, especially when showers are scarce. If you have a little extra space to spare and you’re a regular festival-goer, how about treating yourself to a portable shower?

Swift drying towel – the marvel of microfiber

Bringing a towel to a festival is a must for keeping dampness at bay, but when you’re short on space and the weather is wetter than hoped for, microfibre towels should quickly become your go-to. Not only do they take up much less space and fold neatly away in a small pouch, but they also dry quicker than regular cotton towels. Plus, the magic of microfiber captures bacteria like no other, ensuring you can use the same towel over several days without worrying about it getting filthy.

Stay fresh and fabulous

Festivals can be famously messy, but you don’t have to compromise on cleanliness and hygiene. Illnesses and tummy troubles commonly stem from neglected hand hygiene while camping, so make it a priority to wash your hands regularly – even a water bottle can do the trick when sinks are scarce. Hand sanitizer can also work in a pinch for those times when totally you’re out of options!

Treat your pearly whites with care

Though it’s embarrassing to admit, most of us have probably found oral hygiene does not rank highly as a festival priority. But your teeth deserve love no matter what, so stay hydrated, brush twice a day with toothpaste, and be mindful of your food choices – too much fried food, acidic drinks, and high-sugar treats won’t do your teeth any favours.

Outsmart the outdoor pests

Don’t let pesky bugs and creepy crawlies encroach on your enjoyment. Arm yourself with bug spray and opt for layered clothing to keep those bites at bay. If they do manage to sneak through, you’ll want to come armed with bug bite cream too. And remember, zip up your tent each time you enter and leave to keep the critters outside where they belong!

Bring fabrics that embrace the elements

Embrace the festival vibes by bringing quick-drying fabrics like nylon, polyester, or even merino wool if you’re feeling fancy. Not only are they lightweight and comfortable, but they also excel at absorbing moisture including sweat and rain. Plus, if you opt to hand wash your clothes during the festival, these fabrics will dry in a flash.

Keep the dirt outside

To keep your living space spotless, ditch any outdoor footwear before entering your tent; lay down a protective groundsheet to easily shake off any unwanted dirt; and for any muddy messes left after that, a small dustpan and brush will do the trick.

Conquer the elements

Come rain or shine, you should be prepared to triumph in any festival conditions. Double-skinned tents offer both rain protection and enhanced ventilation for improved comfort. A trusty raincoat and wellies will make sure you stay dry and stylish. Then finally, for that extra layer of protection, long socks should be your ultimate secret weapon against the elements.
