Leicester’s emerging music artists are set to benefit from a major new talent development programme following the Leicester Music Board’s successful Youth Music Trailblazer funding bid.
The ‘Leics Connect’ programme, led by TiME (Technology in Music Education) in partnership with Leicestershire Music, will provide young musicians with high-quality mentoring, skills development workshops and live performance opportunities designed to help them progress their creative careers.
Participants in the programme will receive complimentary access to the third Leicester Music Conference, taking place at 2Funky Music Complex and The Venue @ DMU on 26–27 February 2026. The conference has established itself as a significant fixture in the UK music calendar, drawing artists, industry professionals and music organisations from across the country.
The two-day event features panel discussions, practical workshops, artist showcases, an industry expo and networking opportunities with influential music sector figures. It represents a valuable platform for emerging artists to connect with established industry voices and learn from experienced professionals.
Beyond the conference, Leics Connect artists will have the opportunity to perform on the main stage at Leicester City Council’s Riverside Festival on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June 2026. The free festival offers participants a major platform to showcase their talent and reach new audiences across the city.
Kate Rounding from TiME said the programme creates “clear, supportive routes for young people to develop their talent, build confidence and connect with the wider music industry,” adding that collaboration with the Leicester Music Board and partners enables them to “make a real, lasting impact.”
Sarah Barton from Leicestershire Music emphasised the wealth of talent across Leicester and the county, stating the initiatives will “help nurture that potential and support young musicians as they shape sustainable careers in the music industry.”
Vijay Mistry, Leicester Music Board member and founder of 2Funky Music Complex, highlighted how the Leicester Music Conference has become “a real marker for the strength of the UK music industry outside London,” expressing pride in supporting the conference and creating opportunities that position Leicester prominently on the national music map.
