Lexie Liu and Yves reimagine ‘pop girl’ for new ep

Chinese multidisciplinary artist Lexie Liu has released her new EP, Pop Girls Club, led by the anthemic single “Pop Girl (with Yves)”, a collaboration with K-pop soloist Yves that reworks her earlier track “Pop Girl” into a duet celebrating different versions of pop femininity. The two-track project also includes a second remix, “Pop Girl (with BAYLI & Isabella Lovestory)”, bringing in the New York-based BAYLI and the Canada/US-based Isabella Lovestory for a fresh take on the same song.

Speaking on the collaboration, Lexie Liu said the remixes “celebrate” the idea that “you can feel confident and insecure all at once”, adding that she wanted each artist to reinterpret the track “in their own way” since she is genuinely a fan of Yves, Isabella Lovestory and BAYLI’s work. On the concept behind “Pop Girl”, she explained it’s “about not fitting into one definition of pop femininity, but showing how many different versions of it can exist.”

Pop Girls Club is out now via Platoon and available on all streaming platforms, with the accompanying music video for “Pop Girl (with Yves)” also released to coincide with the drop. The project came together over 12 months across several cities, with Yves based in South Korea, Isabella Lovestory splitting time between Canada and America, and BAYLI working out of New York.

Yves, born Ha Sooyoung, is best known as a former member of the South Korean girl group LOONA, which disbanded in 2023 before she launched a solo career under the label PAIX PER MIL, releasing EPs including LOOP, I Did and Soft Error. She has previously cited artists such as PinkPantheress and Caroline Polachek as influences on her genre-blending solo sound.

Lexie Liu’s breakthrough tracks “X” and “Magician” first introduced international audiences to her fusion sound, which shifts fluidly between English and Mandarin lyrics. Her momentum continued into 2025 with the EP Teenage Ramble, which drew early praise from tastemakers including CLASH, Metal Magazine and Puss Puss Magazine, while Schön magazine praised her for having “carved her own sonic universe, merging rap, pop and indie grit with unflinching vulnerability.”

Pop Girls Club tracklist:

  1. Pop Girl (with Yves)
  2. Pop Girl (with BAYLI & Isabella Lovestory)

Lexie Liu made her debut in 2019 with the critically acclaimed album 2030, establishing her cross-cultural approach to pop music early in her career. Flaunt Magazine has described her as “poised to become the face of a generation of new Chinese artists breaking into the mainstream with a uniquely cross-cultural sound”, a reputation she continues to build with the release of Pop Girls Club.
