Bristol six-piece Knives have announced their second album, Nothing New Under the Sun, due on 5 March 2027 via Marshall Records. The first track from the record, Vermillion, is out today. Listen to it here, and pre-order the album here.

It is the first new music from the album, and it arrives ahead of a busy few months. After 2025 debut Glitter, and a run of shows with The Callous Daoboys, Bob Vylan, The Armed and Maruja, Knives head back out this October as special guests on Cancer Bats’ UK Made of Loud Tour.

Those dates were first set out as part of Marshall’s Made of Loud Tour, which also puts Ignite on the bill and puts money into upgrades at independent venues. Knives have said they would never have got here without rooms like that, including early shows at Moles in Bath, which closed in 2023.

Vermillion turns on a question the band say runs through much of the new record: when all is said and done, can you stand by the choices you have made? Nothing New Under the Sun was shaped by long stretches on the road, late night conversations, and the uncertainty that comes with trying to make sense of the world.

Where Glitter introduced the band, the follow-up digs further in. Lyrics take on climate anxiety, grief, consumerism, media influence, and the consequences of personal and collective action.

Knives said: “Vermillion is centred around the idea of consequence. It’s about trying to live in a way that reflects your values, knowing that every decision you make affects not only yourself but the people around you. The song asks whether the things we leave behind are something we can truly be proud of.”

A video for the single is up on YouTube. Before the album arrives on 5 March 2027, Knives spend October on the road with Cancer Bats. Tickets are on sale via Cancer Bats.

Rooted in Bristol’s alternative scene, the album builds on Glitter. The six members come from hardcore, post-punk, noise rock, nu-metal, electronic music and dance culture, and the band have never been interested in staying inside one scene. Across the new record, saxophone, electronics, heavy guitars and melody sit with lyrics that look at personal experience and wider social issues.

The line-up is Jay Schottlander (lead vocals), Erin Cook (drums), Josh Cook (guitar), Dan Farren (guitar and vocals), Ben Marshall (bass and vocals) and Tegan O’Connor (saxophone and vocals).
