Amazon Lockers are coming to a music festival for the first time.

The distinctive yellow lockers allow customers to collect Amazon orders from corner shops, office blocks and even university halls of residence, with more than 2,200 across the UK.

Usually permanent installations, temporary Amazon Lockers are coming to California’s Coachella this April.

The festival attracts over 250,000 people and runs the same line-up over two consecutive weekends. Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino and Tame Impala are set to headline, with Kid Cudi, Weezer and Wiz Khalifa among hundreds of acts already confirmed.

Amazon Lockers will be available both weekends at no additional cost. The full Amazon range won’t be available, with Amazon saying a festival storefront will: “feature a selection of essentials from categories including fashion & accessories, beauty, health & wellness, tech, and camping. “

Amazon said this will include everything festivalgoers need “from sun hats and phone chargers to lip balm and portable fans” and be available weeks before the festival at amazon.com/Coachella.

There’s no word on the lockers appearing at any more festivals just yet, though major retailers have started popping up at British festivals in recent years.

The Co-op brought massive convenience stores to Download, Latitude, Leeds and Reading last summer, with cheap bottles of wine and even their meal deal. Latitude had its own a Waitrose in 2017.

After selecting one of the Amazon Lockers at Coachella as the delivery address at checkout, customers will get an email with a barcode to collect the package once the order is ready.

Amazon Locker collection emails typically feature a QR code that can be scanned by the locker from a printout or smartphone screen. There’s also a numeric code as a backup that can be entered on the touchscreen.

Amazon Worldwide Director of Lockers and Pickup Patrick Supanc told press: “We want customers to make the most out of their weekend at Coachella. Bringing the convenience of Amazon Lockers to Coachella will help customers focus on their experience instead of worrying about forgetting something at home or having to carry it in with them.”
