Tickets for the South Coast’s most popular arts and culture festival, Arts by the Sea, are now available. Completely free to purchase, visitors can snap up a ticket from Eventbrite to secure their place at the festival’s 10-year celebration, which takes place across various beautiful spaces in Bournemouth from 25 September – 4 October 2020. Tickets, which can only be booked in groups of up to six people, will grant access to two outdoor spectacular fire and lights installations that will be staged under the event’s new COVID-secure format.
Festival Director and Cultural Development Manager at BCP Council Andrea Francis said, “We’d like to reassure visitors that Arts by the Sea is following the latest Government guidance. We have introduced several measures to ensure our events are COVID-secure and that the safety of our audience is of the highest priority. Measures include requiring advance tickets, pre-booked timed entry slots and managed capacities. Our large-site installations will allow plenty of room for social distancing and a one-way audience flow. We’ll be carrying out temperature checks and Test & Trace on all visitors, plus they’ll be adequate stewarding to ensure all new rules are followed”.
Tickets for the diverse and accessible Arts by the Sea Festival, which this year features an exciting and engaging mix of outdoor, indoor and online events, are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For the outdoor events, a maximum of six tickets can be booked for a single household or social bubble, and guests can select their preferred entry slot to experience some of the most enchanting events ever staged by Arts by the Sea. Tickets are in limited supply and many Arts by the Sea fans who pre-registered for ticket information and the festival newsletter have already secured their tickets for these live events.
Tickets are required for the night-time, family-friendly adventure, ‘The Fire Garden’ created by outdoor arts experts, Walk the Plank. From 25 – 26 September in Central Bournemouth, ticket holders can experience a fiery night-time landscape where an everyday space becomes transformed by a dazzling world of illuminating arts, brimming with flaming flowers, crackling trees and plumes of fire. This will be the first time the installation – which has previously toured to award-winning festivals and events – will be seen in Bournemouth.
Also requiring advance tickets is the large-scale light extravaganza, ‘Sea of Light’ curated by Arts by the Sea Associate Artists and long-time collaborators, Ithaca Studio. From 2 – 4 October, also in Central Bournemouth, guests can enjoy thousands of light spheres in a luminos 360-degree light experience accompanied by a surround-sound music composition.
Those in attendance can rest assured that they’ll be welcomed to a secure and safe event where their comfort and wellbeing is of the highest order.

Tickets are also available for TOM by Wilkie Branson – a co-presentation by Arts by the Sea and Pavilion Dance South West. This show, taking place at Pavilion Dance on 25th and 26th September is set in a hinterland between the civilised world and the wilderness and tells the story of one man’s journey to rediscover who he really is. A dance for camera installation, TOM is the latest creation by award-winning choreographer, film-maker and Sadler’s Wells New Wave Associate, Wilkie Branson. In this soul-searching, poetic film, Branson explores storytelling using the hip hop language of b-boying, bringing it together with cutting-edge technologies including animation, projection mapping, sound design and film installation. Tickets can be booked direct through Pavilion Dance South West, where this stunning hour-long film will be screened in a socially distanced set up at the Pavilion Dance Theatre.
One outdoor event not requiring advanced tickets and that can be visited at any point, is ‘In Memoriam’ by Luke Jerram, commissioned by Culture Weston and University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust*. Created from over 100 bedsheets a giant sea of flags will be installed on Sandbanks Beach, symbolically reflecting the people who have passed. Arranged in the form of a medical logo, the installation also pays tribute to the brave NHS staff members and volunteers who continue to risk their lives to care for the thousands affected by the coronavirus. It offers a place for the public to reflect and remember those lost in the COVID-19 pandemic. Although no ticket is required, visitors are asked to maintain social distancing around the installation and stewards will be on hand to help maintain this.

Additionally, budding creatives can join Arts by the Sea’s Trainee Producers Scheme, in conjunction with Emergency Exit Arts.
