Impatient Productions

Show: Luke Rollason, Luke Rollason, Let Down Your Hair
Genre:
Comedy (alternative comedy, clown)

Seeing the world the way Luke Rollason does has been an incredible gift. For a whole hour, Luke personally welcomes you (oh so very personally, as he interacts with the audience) into his goofy, filthy fairytale world of wonder, adventure, and toilet paper. Actually, it’s mostly toilet paper. It’s silly, inventive, unlike anything you’ve seen before, and it’s non-stop banger after banger. A top-tier level of contemporary clowning, mixed with beautiful world-building, keeps you on the edge of your seat – what will this roll of toilet paper turn into next?!

Show: Furiozo: Man Looking for Trouble
Genre:
Comedy (clown, character comedy)

You’re thrown into the rough life on the streets: Polish rap music, crime, drugs, and one of the toughest gangsters around – Furiozo. He’s not silly; he’s as dangerous as hell. Those aren’t tears—that’s just sweat from all the boxing he’s been doing. He doesn’t know what love is; he’s just a badass motherfu**er who gets bad bitches. But you’re in luck—you get on his good side and learn to steal, escape the police, do drugs, and party like crazy. Through all that, you catch a glimpse into his inner world. This beautifully crafted show makes you howl with laughter and then leaves you thinking. It features some of the most incredible audience clowning we’ve seen. Definitely a rising star.

Artist(s): Andrew Turowski, Christiaan Hendriksen, Ollie West
Show: Werewolves of London (Work in Progress)
Genre:
Comedy (alternative comedy, clown)

A show that is almost unmatched in its silliness. Never have we seen a work in progress that feels unfinished only in terms of its duration, as it runs about 40 minutes. Everything else – performers’ clowning skills, plot, and humour – is top-notch, with no further perfecting needed. Have you ever wanted to shoot a werewolf, see a grown man pretend to be a bullet, or meet the Pope? All that and more awaits you! Definitely a must-see – there’s a lot of potential here.

Jordan Brookes

Show: Jordan Brookes: Fontanelle
Genre:
Comedy (stand-up, solo show)

A blend of stand-up, performance, music, and clowning. With astute observations, provocative yet playful tones, a masterful command of his material, and an unmatched ability to subvert the audience’s expectations, this is definitely a must-see hit.

Miles Calderon and Levi Meltzer

Show: Mr Cardboard
Genre:
Comedy (clown, theatre)

Two talented clowns take you into their surreal world, where a mischievous little boy – who shape-shifts into what you could almost call the devil himself – meets a not-so-classic Marvel hero, Mr. Cardboard. What are his powers? Oh, so many things he can do – just look at how wide his pants are! The wild combination of Mr. Cardboard pulling something magical out of nowhere to delight the audience, and Levi’s (the little boy’s) sharp wit and masterful audience interactions, makes this show an incredible wild ride. Truly a great comedy duo with big things ahead of them.

Stamptown Comedy

Artist: Steffen Haanes
Show: Steffen Haanes: The Master
Genre:
Comedy (clown, horror)

May be too spooky to handle for some – a true vampire with a taste for the blood of hecklers. Oh, and they heckle! The way Steffen carries himself makes you want to tease and mess with him, and he invites it! Half of the show is this clown vampire joyfully battling hecklers in the most inventive, playful, and immersive ways.

Josh Glanc

Show: Josh Glanc: Family Man
Genre:
Comedy

Josh has become a Fringe classic for me. You should never miss the chance to see him. He’s a silly billy, a family man, and a brilliant improviser who makes you believe everything is improvised. It’s a blend of the two – you can’t really tell what’s going on. The show is fast-paced, very meta, layered, and incredibly wholesome at times. It’s a guaranteed great time.

Meg Hodgson, Liv Hackland

Show: Rita and Dougie Go to Hollywood!
Genre:
Cabaret and Variety (character comedy, work in progress)

It was a joy to witness. You feel as if you’re seeing something so uncanny and fever-dream-like that you can’t look away. The story is absurdly canonical but executed with such jazz. True clowns – they take something incredibly mundane on the surface and make the audience howl. A special mention goes to the actress playing Dougie; she’s phenomenal. I’ve never seen someone portray a character in clowning with such accuracy, joy, complete immersion, and yet such improvisational vitality. I was stunned by her performance.

Country Mile Productions

Artist: Lorna Rose Treen

Show: Lorna Rose Treen: Skin Pigeon
Genre:
Comedy (character comedy, sketch show)

Truly an amazing mash-up of brilliant sketches executed with joy and improvisational ease. I never knew I’d learn so much about brownies, but somehow I did and loved the entire ride. This show is over, but you can also catch her work in progress – Lorna Rose Treen: Work in Progress.

Bright Side

Artist: Jeromaia Detto
Show: Jeromaia Detto: MUSH
Genre:
Comedy (clown, character comedy)
Photos: None

A very quirky show with audience participation and more. Absurd ideas and concepts are acted out in an unapologetically saucy manner, and it’s all tied together beautifully by the show’s structure. In a bizarre way, even though it’s as crazy as it gets, it starts to make sense by the end and, dare I say, even feels wholesome? I don’t know; you check it out and tell me. I’m still baffled.
