Nightlife phenomenon Glitterbox will return with its second Virtual Festival this Friday, 1st May, after 1.2 million people worldwide tuned in to the debut event two weeks ago. The event is part of the ongoing Virtual Festival series from house music institution Defected Records, which has been viewed by a combined total of over 11 million people since it began in March. During the five streams, $601k has been raised for the WHO’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
The second Glitterbox Virtual Festival, streamed on YouTube, Facebook, Mixcloud, Twitter and Twitch, will feature DJ sets from Armand Van Helden in a throwback from Defected’s We Are FSTVL stage in 2018, Artwork, Dr Packer, Fat Tony, Jellybean Benitez, John Morales, Roger Sanchez doing a special vinyl set, Smokin’ Jo and Glitterbox’s fierce troupe of dancers and performers.
The debut Glitterbox Virtual Festival inspired thousands to don their best club-ready outfits and let loose on the virtual dance floor in the safety of their homes, providing much-needed moments of joy for those in isolation and demonstrating the universal power of dance music to lift collective spirits.
Glitterbox is now going one step further in reaching out to its online community, by launching the Dance For The World competition on Wednesday 29th April. The competition winner will be streamed to millions alongside Glitterbox’s inimitable crew of drag performers and dancers, as part of the third edition of the event on Friday, 15th May.
To be considered, Glitterbox are asking competition entrants to upload a 10-minute audition video of themselves freestyle dancing as an unlisted video to YouTube. They should then send a link to their video to virtual@defected.com, a dedicated email inbox set up for the competition, by Monday 4th May. Entrants must be aged 16 or over. A team of judges will choose five shortlisted dancers from the entries, with one ultimate winner chosen by Glitterbox’s online community, to appear in the next Glitterbox Virtual Festival.
Continuing to unite house and disco lovers around the world for the love of dance, Glitterbox Virtual Festival will once again be setting the bar for virtual events, with dazzling production, dancers and all the confetti moments that fans would expect from the world’s best-loved larger-than-life party.
