In a first for the organisations, Macmillan Cancer Support has today (Tuesday 21st May) been announced as The Isle of Wight Festival’s new charity partner for 2019. Music-lovers will be able to enjoy everything the festival has to offer (including headline performances from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, George Ezra and Biffy Clyro) while supporting a fantastic cause, over 13th – 16th June.
Macmillan knows that cancer can affect anyone, and that a diagnosis can turn a life upside-down. Macmillan is the UK’s leading cancer support charity, providing help on every aspect of life with cancer including the physical, emotional and financial.
In the spirit of the festival’s 2019 theme, ‘Summer of ’69 – Peace and Love’, Macmillan will be spreading the love by providing festival-goers with ‘Refresh Stations’ in its pop-up shop, stocked with dry shampoo and mirrors, as well as offering glitter tattoos in exchange for donations. The Macmillan Information Support Service (MISS) Bus will also be on site for festival-goers to access information.
Backstage, artists and VIPs will have exclusive access to Macmillan’s first ever World’s Biggest Coffee Morning Lounge, where they can steal a moment of calm with a slice of cake and a cuppa amongst the festival frenzy. The lounge is a prelude to Macmillan’s biggest annual fundraising event taking place later this year.
Claire Rowney, Executive Director of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:
“It’s fantastic that we’re partnering with The Isle of Wight Festival this year. As a charity which is almost entirely funded by public donations, to have the opportunity to raise vital funds at such a well-known and widely-attended festival is hugely exciting and an opportunity we’re incredibly grateful for.”
Caroline Giddings, The Isle of Wight Festival Director, said:
“We’re delighted to have Macmillan Cancer Support on board this year for the first time as our national charity partner to help raise funds and awareness for the wonderful work they do providing incredible support for all those affected by cancer.”
