Twisterella announce more artists for 10th anniversary festival

Twisterella on stage

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the award-winning Middlesbrough music festival Twisterella have released the second wave of acts joining them on Saturday October 12th 2024.

Amongst this latest announcement are spellbinding storyteller Amelia Coburn, eclectic modern rock outfit The Manatees and blissed out indie-folk duo Sunflower Thieves amongst many more acts including emerging new talent from the local area and beyond.

Vital to the region and its grassroots scene, Twisterella is widely celebrated for its progressive outlook and steadfast commitment to nurturing new talent, creating both a much-needed platform for emerging bands along with opportunities for established artists to perform in front of appreciative music-loving audiences.

Joining previously announced acts including the likes of noisy Norwegians Pom Poko and Durham’s finest indie-pop outfit Martha, will be local artists like acid-washed indie-rockers Sun King, fans of heavy metal and heady literature GANS and returning friends of the festival Amelia Coburn and Shakk; all coming together celebrating a decade of Twisterella’s role at the heart of Middlesbrough’s music scene.

Taking place around Teesside University and Middlesbrough Town Hall, Twisterella’s metropolitan, multi-venue format offers value and convenience to festival goers, providing them with a unique opportunity to witness numerous incredible performances throughout the day. In the years since its inception, the event has become a central part of the north east’s flourishing music scene and was recognised with an AIF Independent Festival Award in 2019 for its innovative approach to developing and showcasing new talent.

Now celebrating its 10th year, Twisterella has previously played host to established acts such as Sam Fender, Pip Blom, Dream Wife and Prima Queen, whilst the festival’s co-promoters have a proven track record of bringing exciting talent to the region having hosted early shows for the likes of The 1975, Wolf Alice, Alt-J, Daughter and many more.

2024 will also see the return of (Un)Conference; a vital, inclusive forum which brings key figures from across the music industry together in Middlesbrough to share their expertise, offering advice and feedback to Teesside’s next exciting generation of artists.

Twisterella will announce additional artists as well as the (Un)Conference programme over the next few months.

Henry Carden (co-promoter Twisterella) said: “We’re absolutely buzzing with all the artists that we’re bringing to Middlesbrough for our 10th Twisterella. The focus for us, as always, is on the brightest and best breaking artists, but we’ve also tipped our hat to the past decade with some old friends coming back to play for us again. Shakk will be performing at Twisterella for the first time since 2019, but this time, he’ll be making his full band debut and we can’t wait! Amelia Coburn is also making her full band Twisterella debut after a stunning solo set way back in 2017… She’ll be opening up our brand new Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt stage too, which is gonna be unmissable!”

Sunflower Thieves said: “Honestly we’re super happy to be involved in the festival this year – it’s our first show in Middlesbrough, we’ll be bringing new songs and we’re in such good company. Big up Twisterella for 10 years supporting independent venues and artists!”
