Bearded Theory has revealed the first wave of artists for 2027 as the beloved independent festival prepares to celebrate its 18th birthday. Taking place across the bank holiday weekend from 26 to 30 May 2027 at Catton Park in Derbyshire, the milestone edition will feature headline sets from East Coast hip-hop pioneers Public Enemy and a UK festival exclusive performance from Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls.
They head an eclectic first roster of talent that spans indie icons, punk legends, and electronic innovators. Welsh indie favourites Super Furry Animals, synth-pop legends Hot Chip, ska royalty The Interrupters, boundary-pushing punk-hop duo Bob Vylan, and alt-country outfit Westside Cowboy (returning for their second consecutive year) are all slated for the anniversary festivities. They join a bill packed with rising and established acts including wonk-pop outfit Lime Garden, art-rock newcomers Man/Woman/Chainsaw, hardcore punk originators Black Flag, Cowboy Hunters, sister duo ALT BLK ERA, Berlin songwriter Anna Erhard, and The Lovely Eggs.
Tickets for Bearded Theory 2027 are available now via alt. tickets. To make the event accessible, organisers are offering monthly instalment payment plans that allow festival-goers to spread ticket costs up until May 2027. Luxury glamping options in The Junkyard, featuring vintage Airstreams, are already close to selling out.
The announcement marks 18 years of grassroots growth for the independent gathering, which was recently recognised when Bearded Theory won Best Line-Up at the UK Festival Awards. Situated in the heart of the National Forest, Catton Park sits within a two-hour drive for half of the UK population, making it an accessible alternative gathering without corporate sponsorship or branding.
Live music will be hosted across eight distinct areas and stages, each retaining their own distinct identity. The Pallet and Meadow stages cater to the weekend’s biggest crowd-pullers, while the secluded, tree-canopied Woodland stage provides unplugged daytime sets alongside late-night silent discos. Late-night electronic beats will continue inside Big Ed and dance haven CODA, while The Knockerdown tent offers daytime arts, panels, and Q&As before converting into a lively late-night karaoke lounge. Elsewhere across the grounds, underground talent will flourish across Convoy Cabaret, Busk Top, Maui Waui, and the Something Else Tea Tent.
Those wanting a break from the stages can visit EARTH, the festival’s dedicated wellness, eco-conscious, and crafting retreat. The area hosts an array of hands-on workshops throughout the weekend, including pottery painting, basket weaving, and restorative sessions.
Families will also welcome the return of the UK’s first-ever on-site Festival School in the dedicated Children’s Area. Providing free registered schooling, the fully inspected curriculum covers subjects from maths and mindfulness to DJing for pre-school ages through to Year 10. While places for Years 6 through 10 have reached full capacity following initial enrolments, a second round of spaces for Years 2 to 5 will open on 2 January via Ticket Tailor.
BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Chris Hawkins will also return for his regular DJ slot, alongside a dance and alternative contingent that includes pioneering junglist Goldie, Orbital’s Phil Hartnoll, Utah Saints, and ex-Prodigy member Leeroy Thornhill.
