Kraftwerk will play Depot Live at Cardiff Castle on Wednesday 23 June 2027, in one of just two UK dates next summer.
The German electro pioneers are bringing their multimedia live show to the castle grounds after a run of worldwide concert tours. Pre-sale tickets go on sale at 10am on Thursday 22 October via depotlive.co.uk/kraftwerk. General sale opens at 10am on Friday 23 October through depotlive.co.uk and Ticketmaster. Hotel and ticket bundles will be available from general sale. A support line-up has not yet been confirmed.
Depot Live founder Nick Saunders said: “Kraftwerk really are true pioneers of electronic music so we are thrilled to be welcoming them to Cardiff Castle. To have secured one of just two UK dates will make this a truly memorable occasion and one which will attract both our loyal audience as well as people who will want to travel to be part of this moment.”
The concert brings together electronic music, computer animations and performance art. Organisers describe it as a Gesamtkunstwerk, a total work of art. This summer, Kraftwerk were invited to play a special open air concert in Germany for the 100 year anniversary of the Bauhaus.
On stage, founder Ralf Huetter and his team illustrate the idea that man and machine each have something to contribute. Fans in Wales last saw that 3D production at Green Man in August 2022, when Kraftwerk headlined the Mountain Stage. The group also led the bill at the inaugural Forever Now festival at Milton Keynes Bowl in June 2025.
Kraftwerk are among the first headline announcements for Depot Live at Cardiff Castle 2027, presented by Depot Live and Cuffe and Taylor. Confirmed dates so far are:
- Friday 4 June: Sonny Fodera
- Wednesday 23 June: Kraftwerk
- Thursday 24 June: Jack Savoretti and James Morrison
- Wednesday 30 June: Slash ft Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators
- Friday 9 July: Ronan Keating, Blue and the Germein Sisters
- Saturday 10 July: Bananarama at Cardiff Castle, with Tony Hadley and Altered Images
More dates and artists are still to be confirmed.
Kraftwerk was started in 1970 by Ralf Huetter and Florian Schneider. They set up Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, where they conceived and produced every Kraftwerk album. By the mid 1970s the group had international recognition for electronic soundscapes and experiments with robotics. Synthetic voices and computerised rhythms went on to shape electro, hip hop, techno and synth pop, and became a soundtrack for the digital age.
A retrospective of the catalogue at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 2012 took the group back towards the Düsseldorf art scene of the late 1960s. The 3D concert series there was followed by presentations at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo, Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
In 2014, Ralf Huetter and his former partner were honoured with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2021, Kraftwerk were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Since launching, it has welcomed more than 80 headline acts and 240 different artists to the Welsh capital, including Tom Jones at Cardiff Castle, Katy Perry, David Byrne, Avril Lavigne, Sting, Blondie, The Script and Fontaines DC.
In 2025, Depot Live introduced the Blackweir series on Cardiff’s largest greenfield music site. That site has already hosted The Cure, Stevie Wonder, Alanis Morissette, Pitbull and Lewis Capaldi. The programme expands to Swansea in summer 2027 with Singleton Live, a series of major outdoor concerts and Wales exclusive shows at Singleton Park, presented by Depot Live, Full Fat 360 and Cuffe and Taylor in partnership with Swansea Council.
Depot itself was established in 2015. The 2,100 capacity independent venue sits between the city’s grassroots rooms and its arenas, with programming that runs from live bands and breakthrough artists to electronic music and club nights.
