Totem, the company behind the viral Totem Compass wearable, has announced a major update to its app, introducing navigable festival maps and custom waypoints that work without phone signal or Wi-Fi. This transforms the device from a friend-finding gadget into a comprehensive navigation system for live events.
For the first time, anyone can download and use detailed, interactive festival maps entirely offline through the Totem Compass App, even if they don’t own a Totem Compass. The maps allow users to see their own live location relative to stages, concessions, and other points of interest. This makes Totem the first ecosystem to allow users to find friends or locations at a venue in a fully decentralised, real-time manner.
Owners of the Totem Compass can now navigate directly to waypoints like stages or water stations and can even set their own custom waypoints, such as their car or campsite, using the tracker necklace. All of these new navigation features function completely offline, which is a significant development for events where phone signal is often unreliable.
The announcement comes after the company’s largest real-world deployment at Lost Lands Festival, where up to 3,500 Totems were in use by attendees. The company expects to break this record again at the upcoming EDC Orlando, where it will host community meetups and giveaways. To date, Totem has shipped over 41,000 Compasses worldwide and gained over 500 million organic social video views.
“Totem is about connection and immediacy, helping to create more immersive real-world experiences,” said Carter Fowler, Co-Founder and CEO of Totem. “With this new innovation, Totem goes beyond friend-finding. This is now a powerful navigation tool that helps you explore your environment, save valuable time and enjoy events and family gatherings in an entirely new way.”
The updated Totem Compass App is available now on the App Store and Google Play. Key features include downloadable offline maps, live self-location tracking that is more accurate than a smartphone, custom waypoints, and easy software updates for the Totem Compass.
Founded in early 2024, Tennessee-based Totem aims to make live events safer and more immersive. Guided by its core values of Love, Unity, Simplicity, and Beauty, the company’s mission is to foster a new era of human connection.
