Rewind North, which was due to take place this weekend, has been cancelled following prolonged wet weather “caused significant disruption” to the festival site at Capesthorne Hall, near Macclesfield in East Cheshire.

According to the Met Office, almost 20mm of rain fell in the region over eight hours on Wednesday, on top of heavy rain on Sunday and Monday. The Manchester Evening News reported the A34, one of the main routes to the festival, had “become a river” just minutes from the festival site.

In a statement, organisers said: “Unfortunately, the prolonged extreme wet weather conditions experienced in Cheshire have caused significant disruption to the site at Rewind North.

“Although we have robust contingency plans in place and have made every effort to allow the festival to go ahead, in the interests of the safety of our customers, we have taken the decision to cancel the event. The safety and experience of our customers remains our priority.”

All tickets purchased through official channels online will automatically be refunded at face value to the payment card used. Any tickets purchased from Macclesfield Tourist Information Centre must be taken to the Centre in person from 7th August to claim their refund.

Some fans have complained booking fees are not being returned. Across all purchase channels, refund instructions issued by Rewind state the purchaser will be: “refunded with a sum equal to the face value of the ticket(s) purchased. Some fans have complained booking fees are not being returned. Across all purchase channels, refund instructions issued by Rewind state the purchaser will be.”

Thin Lizzy, Gloria Gaynor and Bananarama were set to headline the event. ABBA parody Björn Again were also due to appear, alongside Level 42, Tiffany and Heather Small. Thin Lizzy fans were looking forward to a Q&A session ahead of their headline set on Sunday.
