Slipknot co-founder Shawn “Clown” Crahan has officially launched Vernearth, a massive custom Minecraft project described not merely as a game server, but as a “living art piece.” The server is now live for the public to join using the IP address play.vernearth.com.
Merging his surrealist artistic vision with the block-building mechanics of the world’s best-selling video game, Crahan has built a persistent digital world that rewards both creativity and hardcore survival skills.
While celebrity gaming partnerships are often commercial ventures, Crahan emphasises that this project is “purely spiritual.” Speaking in an exclusive interview with Escapist Magazine, Crahan described the project as “the biggest art piece I’ve made in my entire life,” positioning it as a tool for coping, connecting, and creative survival following personal grief.
A Multiverse of Madness: Game Modes and Features
The experience is divided into four distinct gameplay pillars, which are being rolled out systematically to ensure stability. The ecosystem is designed to cater to different playstyles, from hardcore survivalists to creative builders.
- Oblivion (The Core World): A vast, custom-generated survival landscape featuring corrupted, Clown-inspired elements. Players can explore three major capital cities—Raziel, Seniomsed, and The City of Eternal—while battling custom factions and “Mind Steward” guardians.
- Challenge Mode (Hardcore Seasonal): A high-stakes environment with a strict one-life rule. Reseting every 45 days, each season features a distinct Slipknot theme. Season 1, “The Heretic Anthem,” introduces a chaotic world ruled by a “Heretic Lord.”
- PvP / Event Arena: Designed for fast-paced competition, this mode features arenas like “The Circle Sphere” and “The Blood Square.” Players compete in tournaments to earn “War” currency for exclusive cosmetics.
- Plotworld: A safe sanctuary for pure creativity. Players receive a 52×52 block plot to build freely, protected from the chaos of the survival modes.
“The Glitch is Holy”
Unlike standard corporate servers that polish away imperfections, Vernearth embraces the “ugly magic” of gaming. Crahan notes that he grew up on the glitches of early arcade games and wants to foster that same sense of discovery.
The project treats Minecraft as an engine rather than a finished product. “It’s like a giant, cracked-out OpenGL situation for me,” Crahan told The Escapist, explaining how the platform allows him to “recreate creation” itself.
The server’s launch has been bolstered by community events, including a stream yesterday with metal influencer Nik Nocturnal. Fans can coordinate, find factions, and track updates via the official Discord at discord.gg/vernearth.
With over 100 million blocks placed and a roadmap that includes seasons titled “The Dying Song” and “Friend or Foe?”, Vernearth aims to be a permanent fixture in the digital landscape rather than a temporary promotional tool.
