The 1975 are about to announce their ‘biggest UK show’

The 1975 on stage

The 1975 have sent fans into a frenzy after revealing that they will be announcing their biggest UK show at some point today.

The news broke last night when they posted the teaser below on their official social media channels.

There are already countless theories as to where the show could be – with the most popular suggestions being London’s Finsbury Park, a homecoming show in Cheshire, or even a spot on the Glastonbury line-up.

While the band have long been rumoured for Glastonbury, the presence of a sign-up link in the announcement suggests this will be their own gig with its own ticket sales and presales. Glasto tickets sold out in minutes back in the autumn and while resales of cancelled tickets will take place later this spring, signing up via a band’s website won’t be part of the process.

A standalone outdoor gig seems much more likely to be announced today than a festival slot. Last month, Cheshire Live reported that promoter SJM, who are involved in The 1975’s current arena tour, have submitted an application to host 25,000 capacity gigs on playing fields in Wilmslow. The band were formed in the town, part of Cheshire’s ‘Golden Triangle’, leading to rumours they’re set for a huge homecoming gig.

However, with The 1975 recently announced as headlining Manchester’s Parklife Festival, there could be contractual reasons which would prevent them from playing another huge outdoor gig as close as Wilmslow this summer. While that’s all speculation, it’s leading fans to think a London gig, presumably in Finsbury Park, is the most likely to be announced today.

Their previous Finsbury Park show, set for July 11th 2020, was forced to cancel due to the pandemic – and while they’ve been expected to return ever since this still hasn’t happened almost three years later. The gig was initially rescheduled for July 2021 before again being cancelled.

The 1975 consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Matt Healy, drummer George Daniel, bassist Ross MacDonald, and guitarist Adam Hann. The band has won critical acclaim for their distinct sound and imaginative stage performances.

Their hometown of Wilmslow in Cheshire is considered to be part of the Golden Triangle, a region in Cheshire that includes the affluent towns of Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, and Prestbury. The Golden Triangle is known for its wealthy residents and its high-end shopping, dining, and entertainment options. The 1975’s hometown of Wilmslow has played a significant role in shaping their music and aesthetic.

In 2012, The 1975 released their self-titled debut album, which included the hit singles “Chocolate” and “Sex”. The album was well-received by critics and fans, and it established the band as one of the most exciting new acts in the music world. Since then, The 1975 have released several more albums, including “I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It” (2016) and “Notes on a Conditional Form” (2020).
