For many users, a highly capable mid-range device will be more than enough. But for power users looking for massive battery life, dual-core heating technology, and uncompromising vapour density, the Utillian 850 is designed to be an investment piece that delivers arguably the best vapour you’ll get from a portable that doesn’t share the bulky, walkie-talkie form factor of the S&B Venty.
What’s in the Box
In the box, alongside the Utillian 850 itself, you get the magnetic mouthpiece, a USB-C charging cable, a packing tool, and a few handy spare screens and O-rings. Similar to the Nectar Hex and many modern tech devices, there is no bulky paper manual included, just a prominent QR code to scan for the digital version.
Notably, Utillian also includes a dedicated wax/concentrate canister. The device even features a specific software mode for extracts, unlocking a higher temperature range designed to handle them. I will be honest: I haven’t had the chance to test this feature yet, and for a very specific reason. The very first concentrates for the UK medical market have only just become available to patients, and at the time of writing, they are sitting at around £80 for 2g.
At that price point, it isn’t something I have rushed to try. However, as the UK market inevitably matures and these medications become more accessible, having a device that is already equipped for them, without needing to buy an expensive secondary adapter or a completely separate rig, is a massive bonus that future-proofs your investment.
Usability & The “On-the-Go” Reality
Let’s dive into what the Utillian 850 is actually like to live with day-to-day.
First off, the display is arguably the best I’ve seen on a dry herb vape yet. It features a highly detailed colour LCD that provides live temperature monitoring as you inhale. This isn’t just a flashy gimmick; watching the temperature hold steady while taking a long draw actually proves that the dual-core heating system is working hard to maintain consistency. If you find the default graphics and small text a bit busy, there is a larger, “easy read” mode you can quickly activate.
As with almost all vapes with a colour screen, it is difficult to read in direct, bright sunlight. You will still need to shield it with your hand and get up close to make out the numbers. While a device like the S&B Venty, with its old-school basic calculator-style display, might be easier to read in the glaring sun, the Utillian’s screen gives you significantly more information and a far more premium interface overall.
When it comes to power, the 850 packs a massive 5000mAh battery. In practical terms? It lasts ages. During my weeks of testing, I simply haven’t used it heavily enough to fully drain the battery between my regular charging habits. It gives you incredible peace of mind if you are taking it away for a weekend.
However, taking it away does bring us to its portability. While it will fit comfortably in a standard front trouser pocket, it entirely fills that pocket and you are going to be very aware it is there. If you want to keep the paint pristine, however, you’ll want to tuck it into its own internal pocket.

But, if I were heading out for a long walk in the rugged Welsh mountains or going for a jog with the vape loose in a bag where it can knock against other objects, I would definitely wrap a rubber band around it just to be certain I didn’t spill my medication.
My biggest gripe with the Utillian 850, however, is a frustrating one for medical patients: the lack of dosing capsules. This is my main usability issue. I have heard rumours that capsules from other vape brands might fit, but I’m not brave enough to buy them on the off-chance, nor do I know how they will affect airflow in a chamber they weren’t designed for. When you’re dropping this kind of money on a vaporiser, you expect a premium draw, and the Utillian 850 genuinely delivers here. Starting with taste and vapour density, this device produces some of the most satisfying clouds I’ve experienced from a portable.
A big part of this comes down to the physical mouthpiece and vapour path. Utillian uses a zirconia and gold-plated setup they call ‘Gold Sink Technology’. Unlike a lot of flashy vape terminology, this actually translates to a tangibly better real-world experience. If you’re used to the plastic cooling straw of the S&B Crafty, the difference is night and day. The zirconia mouthpiece does a significantly better job of dissipating heat during longer sessions. The result is a draw that is noticeably cooler on the lips and simply tastes nicer. The flavour holds up well, and the thick vapour production is consistent from the first pull to the last.
The 850 achieves this consistency thanks to its “dual-core” hybrid heating system, meaning it uses two independent heaters simultaneously. You can pull a stupidly large amount of air through this thing, and the heaters keep up perfectly without the temperature dropping off or the vapour thinning out.
This brings me to the airflow control, which is genuinely impressive. There is a physical slider on the bottom that offers a massive range of restriction. Personally, I found the sweet spot to be about 20% open. This gives a nice amount of air but still delivers that satisfying ‘hit’ in the back of your throat and lungs, so it doesn’t feel like you are breathing nothing.
To manage expectations, if you are a heavy user accustomed to thick bags from a mains-powered Volcano, a battery-powered portable will always have its limits. But for all but the heaviest of daily users, the density, temperature, and flavour of the vapour produced here are top-tier.

When the time does come, the inclusion of spare screens and O-rings in the box is reassuring, and the magnetic mouthpiece assembly looks straightforward enough to pop apart for a quick soak in isopropyl alcohol.

After spending a solid chunk of time with the Utillian 850, it is clear that this is a highly capable, exceptionally well-built device. It doesn’t completely reinvent the wheel, but it polishes many of the features power users care about to a very high shine. The battery life is phenomenal, the colour screen is brilliant, and the vapour production, aided by that zirconia mouthpiece and dual-core heater, is undeniably top-tier.
The lack of dosing capsules remains my main sticking point. If you are a patient who relies entirely on pre-packing dozens of capsules for mobility and ease of use, this might be a dealbreaker. However, for the large portion of users who hate fiddling with tiny capsules anyway, prefer carrying a grinder, or mostly use their portable device in and around the house, it is a complete non-issue.
At its £319 RRP, it is definitely an expensive investment. But at the £249 sale price, it suddenly becomes a much more compelling option. It offers a vastly sleeker, more discreet form factor than the S&B Venty, with modern touches like USB-C charging and an informative display that older portables lack. If you are looking for a heavyweight, premium daily driver, the Utillian 850 is a fantastic choice.
