Windwaker announce UK dates and new single “DNA”

Windwaker

Australian band Windwaker have released new single “DNA”, the latest track from third album smile, you’re on camera., which arrives on 23rd October via Fearless Records.

The single is out now to listen and watch. It sits in an alt rock package laced with synths, hip-hop-inspired verses, hard-hitting riffs and screams, continuing the band’s habit of ignoring genre boundaries.

Windwaker are Liam Guinane (vocals), Justin Keurntjes (guitar), Indey Salvestro (bass), Chris Lalic (drums) and Connor Robins (synths and samples). Pre-orders for the album are open now.

“‘DNA’ explores a deeply internal struggle with identity, self-worth, and the feeling of being trapped by one’s own nature,” the band said. “The song reflects on emotional instability and the pressure of living up to expectations, while battling impulses, ego, and the fear of never truly changing. There’s a recurring tension between wanting growth and feeling stuck in destructive patterns, as if these flaws are hardwired into their ‘DNA.’ Another key theme here which is explored over the album is authenticity. References to ‘doing it for the likes’ and people ‘switching sides’ highlights disillusionment with superficial validation and fake personas, while the protagonist in this song tries to strip away ego and confront their true self.”

Across the record, smile, you’re on camera. looks at time, growth, sacrifice and authenticity in a world full of superficial and sinister characters. It is not a linear story. It is a series of personal snapshots, covering emotional highs and lows, the pressure of being seen, and how far the band have come.

The jump from Love Language (2022) to HYPERVIOLENCE (2024) already marked a sharp shift. HYPERVIOLENCE produced “SIRENS”, which has passed 9 million Spotify streams. OnesToWatch called “Fractured State of Mind” “simultaneously brutal and beautiful”. Distorted Sound gave the album a 10/10 and said it had “the energy of a band about to make it big”. Melodic Magazine praised “their genre-warping take on modern metalcore”. Live, they have shared stages with Motionless In White, I Prevail, Beartooth and Caskets.
