Festaff volunteers at Kendal Calling

Over 2000 festival volunteers required for Festaff’s biggest summer ever

14th February 2019 Off By

Festaff have opened applications for volunteer positions at over 30 events this summer, including Glastonbury, Kendal Calling and Creamfields.

More than 2000 places are available this year in the organisation’s biggest summer to date with most roles in campsite stewarding and wristbanding.

Unlike the other major festival volunteering organisations, Festaff volunteers are only required to work two 8-hour shifts at most festivals, not the usual three. That’s an extra free day to make friends and enjoy the music.

In return, volunteers get full access to the festival, and a meal voucher for every shift worked. Volunteers also have their own secure campsite with its own toilets and hot showers, plus free boiling water and phone charging. Make sure to bring your own charger!

Festaff are unique in only charging a £35 deposit for festivals, and while an admin fee of up to £15 is deducted, the rest is returned in cash at the event.

Other organisations charge a hefty deposit matching each festival’s ticket price, often hundreds of pounds, and hold on to it for potentially months following the event.

Festaff also offer roles at one-day events like All Points East, where volunteers will only work one shift that finishes around 8pm, in time for the headline acts.

At most of the weekend festivals, Festaff volunteers are required to arrive on site the day before the event opens to the public and bring their own tent and camping gear.

Volunteers can ensure they get allocated shifts with friends by arriving early for accreditation. Unwanted shifts can be swapped with other volunteers during the event.

Festival volunteering experience will look great on a CV and give you a ‘behind-the-scenes’ insight into some of the country’s biggest live music events.

Glastonbury is the only Festaff event which requires a £240 deposit, in line with the festival’s policy. This deposit is returned after the event rather than on site and the application process is slightly different.

Unlike the other Festaff events, applications for sold-out Glastonbury won’t open to the public until 1st April. Anyone that volunteered at two Festaff events last year will get priority access on 1st March.

Festaff founder Sandy Reid told TheFestivals: “Festaff’s biggest summer to date is just around the corner with over 30 exciting events on the roster.

“We look forward to welcoming over 2000 volunteers to be part of our team – hopefully you and your friends will be there?

“Work, rest and play with your besties without breaking the bank for tickets and enjoying the benefits of being part of our volunteer team”

“Festaff welcomes back Glastonbury to its list of events as well as All Points East and Beat-Herder.

“We are already looking forward to some great nights in London at All Points East, Victoria Park and BST Hyde Park – Neil Young/Bob Dylan being a stand-out night with two of the planet’s biggest ever stars sharing top billing.

“The office is abuzz with line up announcements from Neighbourhood Weekender, Kendal Calling, Isle of Wight Festival and Love Supreme – all of which look like being wonderfully eclectic events…..and there are still many announcements to come!

“It’s going to be great summer – get involved with the Festaff team and have the summer of your dreams.”
