Festival-goers at Green Man are advised to prepare for a heatwave this weekend, with temperatures in the area set to climb as high as 29°C on Friday afternoon.
The latest MET Office forecast for the nearby town of Crickhowell indicates a weekend of sustained warmth and sunshine. This comes as thousands of guests settle in for the sold-out event, which opened its gates on Thursday in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.
The forecast details a significant warm spell across the main festival days:
- Friday: Expected to be the hottest day, with clear sun and temperatures peaking at 29°C in the late afternoon.
- Saturday: Remaining very warm with a high of 27°C. The forecast shows sunny intervals throughout the day and a high UV index of 7.
- Sunday: The sunshine continues with temperatures reaching a pleasant 26°C, closing out the festival weekend with more warm weather.
With consistently high temperatures and significant periods of strong sunshine, attendees are urged to take extra precautions to stay safe and healthy.
Essential Safety Advice for the Heat:
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience in the sun, attendees should consider the following advice:
- Prioritise Hydration: Dehydration is a major risk in these temperatures. Carry a reusable water bottle and make frequent use of the free drinking water refill stations located across the festival site. It is advisable to moderate consumption of alcohol and caffeine, both of which can contribute to dehydration.
- Effective Sun Protection: The UV index is forecast to be high, meaning sun protection is critical. A broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF should be applied generously and reapplied every couple of hours. Loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing is recommended, along with a wide-brimmed hat and UV-protective sunglasses.
- Utilise Shaded Areas: Taking regular breaks from direct sunlight, especially during the hottest part of the day on Friday, is crucial. Festival-goers can find cover in wooded areas like Fortune Falls, within the various tented stages such as the Walled Garden or the Far Out tent, or by enjoying the programming inside the Cinema tent.
- Recognise Heat-Related Illness: It is important to know the signs of heat exhaustion, which include dizziness, headaches, nausea, and excessive sweating. If a person experiences these symptoms, they should be moved to a cool place and given plenty of water. If symptoms do not improve or signs of heatstroke appear (such as confusion, a very high temperature, and a lack of sweating), immediate help should be sought from the festival’s medical or welfare tents.
The warm weather provides a perfect backdrop for Green Man’s extensive programme. Across ten stages, festival-goers will see headline sets from Underworld, Wet Leg, and TV On The Radio. The diverse lineup also includes performances from CMAT, Kneecap, and Wunderhorse, alongside comedy from Stewart Lee and Kiri Pritchard-McLean. The four-day event, which sold out in just one hour, will conclude on Sunday with its traditional closing ceremony.
