Glastonbury organizers shared the line-up for the Theatre & Circus Fields on social media today (3rd May) at 12 pm, expressing their excitement for the impressive array of talent set to perform. It comes just one day after the Left Field poster was revealed and follows a string of other announcements.
The comprehensive line-up features hundreds of artists and performers from around the globe, showcasing circus arts, theatre, dance, comedy, music, spoken word, and various forms of entertainment scheduled from mid-morning to the wee hours of the night.
A notable attraction this year is world-renowned body artist Victoria Gugenheim, who will merge live body painting with poetry. Among the returning crowd favorites are Glastonbury’s iconic walkabout theatre acts, such as giant seagulls, stilt walkers in ornate outfits, acapella singers, and lost explorers. Riser stages will also host premier street performers day and night.
In the Circus Field, the dynamic Circus Big Top will run continuously for 16 hours daily, presenting top national and international circus acts. Highlights for 2023 include the all-female cabaret ensemble Hot Brown Honey, the comeback of Cirque du Vulgar, and new Glastonbury Art Commissions supported by Arts Council England.
Family-friendly nighttime activities abound, featuring the Midnight Playground—an LED hula hooping party open to all—and late-night aerial performances at the Outside Circus Stage, which sports a new aerial rig. Rimski’s Yard, the mesmerizing junkyard wonderland, will also return to the Brambles at the top of Glebeland with captivating performances and inventions.
Theatre and Circus attendees are encouraged to participate in various activities, such as workouts with Joe Wicks, laughter yoga, zorb football, and the Crate Stack Challenge. Visitors can also create clay figurines for the Daemon or Doppelganger mini festival scene or take part in the Ukelele Thrash Mob.
Astrolabe, Glastonbury’s theatre tent, will host exclusive performances, including Jonathan Pie’s one-time appearance on Thursday evening, George Egg’s Set Menu, and VOU Fiji Dance’s new show. Sensation Seeker’s Stage in Bella’s Field will feature nightly big bands and Glastonbury Musical Vox Mob, an interactive singing workshop leading to a full performance on Sunday.
The Cabaret tent will host The Guardian Q&As at noon, followed by performances from top comedians such as Nish Kumar, Phil Wang, Nina Conti, and Pam Ayres. Josh Widdicombe and Rob Becket will also present a Glastonbury-themed edition of their parenting podcast. In Bella’s Field, the Poetry&Words tent will showcase spoken word artists by day and transform into the intimate cabaret venue Mavericks at night. The field will also house the world’s smallest escape room, the Portaclue, and the world’s tiniest cinema, Sol Cinema, as well as hammocks for those seeking relaxation.
