The Vaccines have joined the line-up for Glastonbury 2024 with the announcement of the Woodsies line-up poster at 12 noon today. The band said on Twitter: “Beyond excited to be coming back to Glastonbury, the best party in the world, and playing Woodsies for the first time since 2011. See you all there??”
Other new additions include The K’s, Kim Gordon, Lambrini Girls, Voice of Baceprot and Emerging Talent Competition winner JayaHadADream. There will also be a brand new ‘Tree Stage’.
Many of the artists on the Woodsies poster were known weeks ago from Glasto’s first line-up announcement, including James Blake, Jamie XX, Kneecap, Gossip and Sleaford Mods.
The Woodsies Stage is Glastonbury’s largest indoor stage and was known as The John Peel Stage until last year. This was part of a push to name stages after the fields they’re in, as is already the case with the West Holts and Silver Hayes stages – which could make it slightly easier for first timers to navigate the enormous festival.
At the time, Emily Eavis told the Guardian the renaming has nothing to do with a petition which called for the stage to be renamed following a series of allegations about the former BBC Radio 1 presenter. She said: “I haven’t got involved in that because it’s not our area. We’ve had 20 years of John Peel and it’s been an honour to use his name. We’ve had a really good relationship with the Peel family and everyone’s on board.”
The all-new Tree Stage is billed as: “A new outdoor venue, set beneath an oak tree décor canopy, zeroing into the immersive, ambient and experimental”.
Earlier this morning, East End Dubs confirmed on his Instagram story that he’ll be playing on The Temple stage in Glasto’s South-East corner.
The Woodsies line-up poster comes hot on the heels of the Silver Hayes posters, which were released just 20 hours earlier at 4pm Monday afternoon. Other posters already released include Shangri-La, The Glade, West Holts, Avalon and The Acoustic Stage.
There are likely at least a dozen more area posters still to come, including Arcadia, The Park and Block 9.
Last week, Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis was honoured at Windsor Castle for his services to music and charity. The 88-year-old dairy farmer received the honour from the Princess Royal after hosting the first Glasto’ on Worthy Farm back in 1970.
Eavis told the official Glastonbury site he was “really surprised” by the knighthood, modestly wondering “Why did they choose me?” Despite his humble reaction, the festival he created has become the largest greenfield music event worldwide, attracting around 200,000 revellers and top acts each year.
Crucially, it also raises millions annually for good causes like Greenpeace, Oxfam and WaterAid. In 2023 alone, over £3.7m was donated to charities tackling issues like homelessness, food poverty, the refugee crisis and mental health.
So while Eavis questions his deserving of the title “Sir”, few could argue he hasn’t earned it through steadfast commitment to charitable giving and pulling off the iconic festival year after year.
If you missed out this year, there are currently loads of competitions with the chance to win Glastonbury tickets. Most of these are free for anyone to enter, while a few are restricted to customers of the right phone network or energy company and some others require a purchase from the Co-op or Oxfam.
Alternatively, or if you’re lucky additionally, head beyond the mainstream for a change of pace you won’t regret and grab some tickets to one of these fantastic independent festivals.
