Continuing its ethos of not just entertaining but educating too, Homobloc will be hosting numerous talks over the weekend throughout Manchester. “There Goes The Gaybourhood” will be an in-depth exploration into how communities and cities have been helped and shaped by queer culture around the world, whilst Niven Govinden will be joining for conversation and reading from his Gordon Burn Prize shortlisted book; This Brutal House (2019).

Saturday, November the 9th is the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and to commemorate the occasion Homobloc will be presenting “Mauerstadt 30: Stories From The Berlin Wall” which will see Manchester-born, Berlin-based producer, filmmaker and cultural catalyst Mark Reeder (B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West-Berlin 1979-1989) talks to Dr Beate Peter about Berlin’s underground music scenes in the years leading up to the fall of the Wall, and how he risked his freedom to bring punk to the East. The event will also include the toast of London’s queer underground, DJ Wes Baggaley (Fabric, NYC Downlow, Robert Johnson) and producer extraordinaire Margo Broom (DiY Soundsystem, Fat White Family, Meatraffle, Big Joanie) playing a set of exclusive electronic music inspired by the Berlin Wall.

Rounding off the weekend will be a One Deck session and Q & A with one of Homoelectric’s long-time collaborators and musical icon Roisin Murphy. She’ll dig deep into her record collection for what will be an unforgettable journey for music fans young and old.
