Emily Eavis has confirmed that Janelle Monáe will play a headline set on the West Holts stage at Glastonbury this summer.

She made the announcement this morning on Lauren Laverne’s BBC Radio 6 Music breakfast show.

Glastonbury then confirmed the news on their social media channels just before 10 am.

The American artist released her third album Dirty Computer in April 2018, and also starred in recent movies Moonlight and Hidden Figures. Monáe is set to appear in UglyDolls this year, and featured in the animated movie Rio 2 as Dr. Monae.

Music and culture expert Chris Pickford told TheFestivals: “I’m probably going to go watch her. Dirty Computer has basically been on repeat all year for me. “

It was confirmed back in November that Stormzy would headline the iconic Pyramid Stage on Glastonbury 2019’s Friday night after Glastonbury Free Press posters appeared in Oxfam shops.

Stormzy was already rumoured to be playing the festival after previous hints from Emily Eavis and an Instagram story posted by the artist last summer.

Eavis has also confirmed that Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, and Led Zeppelin won’t be appearing at this summers festival, ending speculation.

Bookies slashed odds on a reformed Oasis appearing at the festival after Liam Gallagher offered brother Noel an apology on Twitter last July, and The Cure have also been rumoured after saying they will headline twenty festivals this summer.

The first batch of tickets for Glastonbury 2019 sold out in just 29 minutes back in October, with a resale set to take place in April.

Glastonbury will take place from Wednesday 26th to Sunday 30th June 2019.
