‘New V Festival’ for 2018 unveiled as RiZE Festival26th February 2018
An event unveiled today can certainly be deemed the new V Festival. Taking place at the same Chelmsford Hylands Park site in Essex as V Festival, and over the same August weekend, RiZE Festival has today been unveiled as a replacement for V Fest South. Liam Gallagher and Stereophonics are set to headline. James Bay, Craig David, Rag’n’Bone Man, Bastille, and Rita Ora are also set to feature. Several of these acts, including headliners Stereophonics, have played the festival whilst branded V Fest during recent years. Headliner Liam Gallagher has not appeared since Oasis cancelled their performance last minute in 2009. Parklife were recently forced to add potato peelers to their prohibited items list after Liam invited fans to bring the kitchen utensils to a London gig on Twitter.
New V Festival North?
No mention has yet been made of any festival at the Staffordshire site of V Festival North, and RiZE Festival will not be taking place across the two sites. However, organisers Festival Republic are also hosting a (sold out) RiZE branded Liam Gallagher gig at Lancashire County Cricket Club over the same weekend.
Update: Local media have now confirmed that no new V Festival North or any other festival will take place at Weston Park this year.
Tickets are available from Friday 2nd March from the festival’s official website here. RiZE are also offered the opportunity to win one of four tickets by retweeting their lineup here. Notably, the 2 day festival has moved from a Saturday-Sunday event to Friday-Saturday.

Social media reaction
Reaction to the festival on Twitter was somewhat varied, with some feeling the festival was too much like previous V Fests and some feeling it didn’t match up. Northern fans are particularly disappointed to learn no festival will take place at Weston Park this summer. Only vague plans exist for an unrelated event to be held in 2019. Local media have reported that a Shrewsbury-based water charity will miss out on over £10,000 they raised in previous years at V Festival North, providing festival attendees with luggage trolleys for £10 an hour rental.
So the Rize festival is now replacing V Fest and it’s only in Chelmsford. So Weston Park now has no summer festival anymore. Great 😐😒

New V Fest, Value for Money?
In July 2017, researchers found V Festival to offer the worst value for money of the 15 UK festivals sampled. They looked at factors such as the cost of the ticket, overall cost of the day, and the number of artists scheduled to appear. Glastonbury achieved best value at 15p per artist against the cost of a ticket, compared with £1.60 per artist at V Festival. With the new V Festival, RiZE, again set to be a two day event, the cost-per-artist is likely to remain similar, as tickets priced ~£178 are comparable with three day events.
