Overflo creators are pleased to announce the final additions to the debut multi-genre festival – The Queer Marketplace, workshops, delicious local food, and the PXSSY PALACE soft chill hub: The Sancuary.The multi-genre 10 hour festival line up will play stage to Ms Banks, bbymutha, Nayana IZ, Ojerime, + much more, on Sunday 18 September at Burgess Park, South London. Created from an abundance of passion and love, PXSSY PALACE co-founder, Nadine Noor Ahmad and BBZ co-founder Naeem Davis joined forces to create Overflo Festival. The unique one-day gathering is a multi-stage event bringing audiences the very best of homegrown and international LGBTQ+, Trans, Non-binary, Black, Indigenous and POC talent.
The Queer Marketplace will host a fabulous selection of independent vendors such as PXSSY PALACE’s resident tarot reader, Seeratonin aka DM.Seerah, Tuft Times tooth gems, the UK’s first tucking & inclusive underwear brand, Carmen Liu, Meeshal’s Mehndi creating beautiful designs, bespoke Big 3 Astrology readings and Card Readings with Astral Elliss, and a piercing booth with Hood Pierced.
Workshops will include ‘preventing harm as a bystander’ with Good Night Out, a participatory session with seasonal herbal infusions, tea tasting and blending with Community Apothecary, discussions and zine making around grief with June Bellebono, an energy boosting bath salts making workshop with Healthy Filth, self defence classes for QTIBIPOC & FLINTA with Shadow Sistxrs, as well as the elite Kiki House of Bodega teaching the 5 elements of vogue.
Overflo centres music, art, care and culture and has been created and curated by Queer and Trans people of the global majority. Staff on site will be specially trained and intentional spaces designed with the comfort of typically marginalised festival-goers in mind will also be available –
The Sanctuary will be among these spaces offering black and brown trans and non binary guests a moment away from the dancefloor to relax, rehydrate, engage with new ideas and commune, plus the option to charge their phone! Created by Pxssy Palace to provide a space of respite for the most marginalised in festival spaces and now an integral part of Pxssy Palace’s structure, it is the opposite of the loud intensity of the club. The Tanctuaryat Overflo is dedicated to our Trans, non binary and gender expansive guests who are ALSO Black and POC. Overflo will not be policing entry and ask those who wish to enjoy the space to observe the dedication and the necessary choice. With Trans people being some of the most vulnerable and underrepresented members of the community Overflo felt it urgent to prioritise their access to an identity specific space on this occasion.
The day will provide an offering of local, tasty food from the likes of Eat Lah’s Malaysian street food, LIL WATAN Lebanese food truck, Dough Lad’s woodfired pizza, Jollof Mama’s West African home cooking, Yam Good Vietnamese, plus, JRK Bros bringing Grandma’s Caribbean classics.
Co-curators Ahmad and Davis are the creative directors behind PXSSY PALACE and BBZ, two of London’s most iconic club nights and the acclaimed travelling art festival Lesbiennale. Consummated through ‘defiance and desire’ the pair see Overflo Festival as a natural progression of their love for queer culture and the legendary moments from the scene.
Overflo Festival will unapologetically proclaim queerness, on the dancefloor and throughout the thoughtfully curated festival grounds. Created from years of experience, participation and experimentation Overflo is set to be a unique fixture for music and art within the emerging inclusive festival scene. Aiming to provide a liberating escape for the LGBTQ+ and BPoC community including the people who love and support them.
