Discover tomorrow’s headliners at Roundhouse Rising Festival

Running from Tuesday 15th October through to Tuesday 29th October 2019, across eleven days, Roundhouse Rising brings a new level of performance and sound to London’s iconic Roundhouse. Now in its ninth year, Rising Festival has paved the way for successful young artists such as Little Simz, Tom Misch, Dom McAllister, The Magic Gang, Hooton Tennis Club, Pretty Vicious and many more.

This year, Roundhouse Rising and Serious Productions welcome GAIKA who will be headlining the festival on Tuesday 29th October. Described by the Guardian as ‘Britain’s most vital rapper’ the Warp label artist evades categorisation of his sound, yet strongly stands out as an interdisciplinary artistic and political visionary.

An exclusive one-off show set in the Roundhouse’s iconic main space will see GAIKA expand on his signature blend of Grime, Dancehall and R&B infused electronic music, as he’s joined by a ten-piece jazz ensemble led by composer Jason Yarde. Expect a fresh, new sound and politically charged audio-visual experience that aims to send out a message of hope for the future from Britain’s next generation.

Across the rest of the festival, the more intimate Sackler Space provides the stage for Æ MAK, West London Grime MC, Big Zuu and electro-beats luminaries, psychedelic soul songstress Greentea Peng, Colossal Squid – AKA Adam Betts and Kai Whiston, a truly original producer who seems to draw from everything and yet sound like nothing else, plus Sinead O’ Brien’s artful blend of spoken-word and post-punk.

Renowned for their multidisciplinary dabbling, Liverpool’s genre-defying electronic experimentalists Stealing Sheep will be supported by Swedish-come-London urban pop artist and producer Eva-Lina in collaboration with The F Word, a female collective promoting gender parity in music. Also on the lineup are 60’s inspired indie band Weird Milk, rappers on the rise HMD, Priincess Kemz and R.A.E, soulful singer-songwriters Anaïs and Martha Da’Ro and Roundhouse Resident Artist IORA.

As well as a diverse and powerful set of live headline acts, Wednesday 16th October sees the Rising Sounds album launch – featuring live sets from the album; a culmination of ten exceptional emerging musicians age 18-25, each paired up with a professional producer to record a track. Plus there’ll be two specialist Transmission shows: Deeper Cuts, with PYJÆN, Nihilism and Chelsea Carmichael bringing you the best new modern jazz, afro-beat, and left field electronic music, plus The Green Room Live with Weyland McKenzie.

This year Roundhouse Rising is excited to announce a fresh crop of partners all playing a vital role in shaping the festival programme by showcasing pioneering new artists within the industry. Teaming up with BBC Introducing in London, Brighton’s The Great Escape Festival, global artist agency Paradigm, female collective The F Word and Bucks Music Group. Also involved are Gilles Peterson and Brownswood Music’s new talent discovery agency, Future Bubblers, contributing their musical taste to the curated line-up.

Roundhouse Rising Festival celebrates new, emerging music and musical talent. So much more than just a venue, the Roundhouse is a talent incubator and creative hub, offering much needed facilities, inspiration and guidance for aspiring young creatives. This year, the pricing structure has been changed to make shows across the festival more accessible for young people, enabling a wider audience to experience more, great, new music.

The Roundhouse has been home to the very best that live music has to offer, whilst constantly inspiring and championing the new sounds of tomorrow. Roundhouse Rising welcomes everyone to be part of this perpetual journey.
