Boomtown Fair, one of the UK’s largest independent festivals, is celebrating the twelfth chapter of this musically diverse and theatrically led, 66,000 capacity event by releasing a series of headline acts ahead of its February lineup announcements.
Its first major artist release for 2020 is London based rapper Kano. A MOBO winning performer who is a true powerhouse of the grime scene and a musical pioneer whose lyrics are an exceptional social commentary on contemporary life, Kano will close the festival on the majestic Lion’s Den the greatest of Boomtown’s stages. Following the release of his 6th album Hoodies All Summer and sellout tour that culminated in a one off show at the Royal Albert Hall, Kano’s heart, passion, energy, political voice and allout talent absolutely sets the tone for the long list of artists that the festival has up its sleeve.
Boomtown is set in a fictitious city, built on the Matterley Estate, nr Winchester. Made up of 12 distinctly themed districts that house over 27 main stages, the festival is home to a hugely diverse musical programme that celebrates over 1,000 international stars to fresh grassroot talent from over 80 musical genres. Over two-thirds of the bill is dedicated to live music and the event has proudly announced that joining the festival’s closing headliner, Kano, folk-punk band Flogging Molly, French heavyweights Caravan Palace and New Orleans collective Tank And The Bangas will be setting the Boomtown tempo in 2020.
Drum and Bass also remains at the heart of Boomtown and with a dedicated 20,000 capacity DnB arena Noisia, are due to bring their thunderous beat to Relic stage to celebrate the end of a twenty-year reign as one of the greatest artists in DnB history. Recognised for hosting some of the UK’s biggest psychedelic parties Boomtown’s psytrance offering is set to ramp up yet another level with the likes of Vini Vici, Astrix, Hilight Tribe and Avalon.
Known not just for its music but also for its creative vision and theatre, Boomtown is an immersive festival that pushes boundaries and the public’s experience is underpinned by an interactive and continually unfolding storyline that plays out across the festival. Each year the creative vision evolves and Chapter 12 is set to see one of the festival’s most ambitious creative projects yet; a high impact performance that plays out across multiple main stages. A preview to be released on Friday at 1pm via Boomtown social channels.
Commenting on the next development of Boomtown, co-founder Lak Mitchell says: “Over the years we’ve been working towards a festival that was truly an interactive experience. One that celebrated the whole musical spectrum but also led the way in creative thinking. This evolution will culminate this year with a multi-stage theatrical spectacle, fused with all the other performance elements, on a scale we’ve never done before!”.
