The renowned rock bands Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe have officially announced that local indie rock group VIVAS will be the support act for their inaugural co-headlining concert of the European tour. The gig is set to take place at Sheffield Bramall Lane on Monday, 22nd May. Tickets remain available from this page on Ticketmaster.
This performance holds special significance for Def Leppard, as it marks a homecoming show at Bramall Lane, a stadium deeply cherished by frontman Joe Elliott, who is an avid supporter of Sheffield United.
The selection of VIVAS as the supporting act adds a familial touch to the event. The Sheffield-based band includes Tyler Savage, the son of Def Leppard’s Rick Savage, as their lead guitarist and backing vocalist.
In an enthusiastic statement, VIVAS expressed their gratitude, stating, “We are absolutely delighted to announce that we will be supporting rock legends Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe when they play in Sheffield on Monday 22nd May at Bramall Lane. We honestly can’t thank Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe enough for the opportunity. See you there!”
Rick ‘Sav’ Savage responded to the announcement on Instagram, commenting, “Can’t wait guys. Go easy on us xx.”
Prior to this confirmation, VIVAS had already been announced to open for Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe at the Lytham Festival, scheduled for Sunday, 2nd July.
Meanwhile, Wolfgang Van Halen’s band Mammoth WVH has been confirmed as the special guest for Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe’s concerts at London Wembley Stadium, Dublin Marlay Park, and Glasgow Green. The band is also slated to perform at Download Festival on Thursday, 8th June. These UK summer shows will precede the release of Mammoth WVH’s second album, ‘Mammoth II’, set to be released on Friday, 4th August 2023 by BMG.
Def Leppard, in a notable departure from their customary large-scale performances, will also be playing their smallest UK show in 35 years at The Leadmill in Sheffield on Friday, 19th May. On Tuesday, 16th May 2023, Def Leppard members Rick Allen, Vivian Campbell, Phil Collen, Joe Elliott, and Rick Savage will take part in a conversation at the Royal Festival Hall. They will share insights about their illustrious musical journey and discuss their upcoming book, ‘Definitely: The Official Story of Def Leppard’.
