It looks pretty much confirmed that Blossoms and Rick Astley will play a secret set at Glastonbury this weekend – and they’re expected to play covers of The Smiths as on their 2021 tour.
They’ll be on the former John Peel Stage now known as Woodsies from 6pm to 7pm on Saturday.
The Twitter account SecretGlasto, widely respected as the authority on surprise appearances, said on Thursday: “The Friday TBC slot on Woodsies is those charming men, Blossoms and Rick Astley.” – however, this was corrected on Friday morning: “Hozier is the Woodsies slot tonight, Blossoms/Astley tomorrow. Sorry for the mix-up! Either way, those are the two Woodsies TBCs.”
In the weeks leading up to the festival, many had expected Friday’s surprise set at Woodsies to be Pulp and some thought it would be Blur. On Wednesday, The Sun reported it would be Hozier, which was then widely reported across the media.
A member of the eFestivals Glastonbury forum said they spoke to Tom from Blossoms on Thursday morning after “bumping into him” in the Park area. He told the forum member the Blossoms and Rick Astley set is actually on Saturday night, but unless we get a correction from SecretGlasto, it looks like Friday is the correct day.
The Sun reported last month that Risk Astley and Blossoms would ‘reunite’ at Glastonbury. Also, around 8pm last Friday, SecretGlasto tweeted an image of the Woodsies tent with the caption “This time next week!” with a QR code attached. When scanned, it opened the classic ‘rick roll’ that is Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up‘ on Youtube. Though we now know this was a mistake and the Rick Astley and Blossoms set will be Saturday night.
Blossoms don’t have an official place on the line-up, but Rick Astley will open the Pyramid Stage on Saturday with a 45 minute set starting at 12 noon – another reason the Saturday appearance makes sense.

The Guardian reviewed the ‘Rick Astley and Blossoms perform the songs of The Smiths‘ tour back in 2021. They said: “It shouldn’t work, but it does because the songs are glorious and presented with care and detail.
“With quiff, spectacles, wonderfully ludicrous checked trousers, microphone twirls and in-ear monitors resembling hearing aids, 55-year-old Astley makes an eerily good young Morrissey.
“Watching this show in 2021 involves a certain suspension of disbelief, but it’s hard to imagine a more joyful night out.”
