Glastonbury live: George Ezra secret set confirmed for Sunday

George Ezra Glastonbury John Peel surprise set

George Ezra has confirmed he’ll be playing a surprise set at Glastonbury this afternoon. He was widely expected to appear today until Thursday, when a bout of laryngitis diagnosis forced him to cancel shows and left his a secret slot hanging by a thread.

Fortunately, he’s now recovered and a few minutes ago, he announced on his official Twitter account that he’ll be playing the John Peel Stage at 2pm today – and if you’re not lucky enough to be on the farm (or if you can’t squeeze into the tent) you’ll be able to watch live online for free right here.

George isn’t the only big name in line for a surprise appearance today. Jack White is now confirmed to play the Park Stage later today, while Green Day and Arlo Parks are also rumoured to pop up somewhere on site. George Ezra’s set had been widely expected ever since images of the sign above were shared online during preparations for the festival. ‘Gold Rush Kid’ is the name of his latest album, released earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the hype around Green Day comes as no surprise, with mainstream media outlets touting them as favourites for a secret appearance the band playing two headline shows in London on Friday and Saturday before a suspicious-looking gap on the Sunday of their tour schedule.

On Friday, Bristol Live reported that a leaked secret set schedule had Green Day down to appear on the BBC Introducing Stage – though it also claimed Harry Styles would join Billie Eilish during her headline Pyramid Stage set last night, which he did not.

The constantly updated list of Glastonbury 2022’s secret sets still has plenty of empty slots during Sunday, where we know the stage and time but not who the artist will be – including the BBC Introducing Stage, Strummerville and The Bimble Inn – so you could have a look at Sunday’s list and have a guess at which is most likely. Or just keep them in mind in case you happen to be nearby.

Yesterday afternoon, we found out Lily Allen is making her way into Glastonbury, according to an Instagram story she shared this afternoon.

In posted videos of her family in the car with her, the acclaimed artist asks Marnie Rose, her daughter, Rose if she’s “ready for Glastonbury?” – then in a subsequent snap, shown above, she writes: “She thinks she’s embarrassed now… wait till I hit that stage later”.

Lily Allen appeared on stage with Olivia Rodrigo, when they dedicated a performance of her song ‘Fuck You’ to the US Supreme Court for overturning the Roe v Wade ruling on women’s rights. See the clip below.

On Thursday night, Bastille played a not-so-secret set to a packed William’s Green tent – with stewards having the close the area hours before as crowds descended and filled it to capacity. The band appeared with Old Dirty Brasstards and played a set of their classics reworked with the brass band.
