Fans at TRNSMT in Glasgow over the weekend spotted a plane flying overhead with the banner: “Jesus calls, will you follow?“, on behalf of FlyJesus. They’ve already flown over Download and Isle of Wight this summer, in a continuation of a project that started last year.
We’ve been sent a collection of aerial photos taken from the plane as it flew over the TRNSMT main stage on Glasgow Green at around 5 pm on Saturday, where Stormzy, George Ezra and Lewis Capaldi appeared over the weekend.
FlyJesus, operated by Escalls Methodist Church, was founded by activist Christine Bonfield. She was “feeling distraught over the spiritual state of our country” when God told her: “Get a plane, tie a banner with my message on it and fly the length and breadth of the country.”
The group flew a banner reading “Jesus loves every one of you” over around a dozen festivals last summer. Christine told TheFestivals they thought the flights were finished: “but then God revealed he wanted people to be able to respond to His love and follow Him.”
A crowdfunding page for the FlyJesus project has raised over £76,000 to date. Christine said: “Glasgow is the furthest North we go. As far as we have been able to find out, there are no banner flying pilots in Scotland so they have to fly from further South. Fortunately, the weather was good.”
