Yungblud opens sold-out UK arena tour with triumphant Sheffield homecoming

Grammy-winning rock superstar Yungblud opened his sold-out Idols: The World Tour UK leg with a triumphant homecoming show at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena on Saturday, April 11, bringing the Doncaster-born artist back to his Yorkshire roots after a landmark year on the global stage.

The show capped a remarkable period for the 28-year-old, who earlier this year made Grammy history as the first British artist to receive three nominations in the Rock categories in a single year, ultimately winning Best Rock Performance for his powerful rendition of Black Sabbath’s ‘Changes’, a tribute to his late mentor Ozzy Osbourne. The victory followed the release of part two of his chart-topping album IDOLS, adding to a 2025 that also saw him score his second UK number one with the collaborative Aerosmith EP One More Time.

Sheffield’s Utilita Arena was completely sold out for the occasion, and the crowd was rewarded with a spectacular production from the off. Opening with confetti cannons and a thunderous ‘Hello Heaven, Hello’, the set rolled through ‘The Funeral’, ‘Idols Pt.1’, and ‘Lovesick Lullaby’ before the temperature quite literally rose with flames shooting from the stage during a ferocious mid-set run. Chants of “Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire” rang out across the arena throughout the night.

“This album, Idols, was made in Yorkshire and we brought it home tonight,” Yungblud told the crowd. He later added: “I’ve been away for too long. Does anybody want to kidnap me and take me home with them? I won’t be good though!”

One of the most memorable moments of the evening came when an audience member was brought on stage to play guitar for a roaring ‘Fleabag’, before Yungblud descended into the crowd to meet fans directly. A massive ‘Loner’ preceded a darkened stage exit, only for him to return for anthemic renditions of ‘Ghosts’ and a performance of ‘Zombie’, recently reimagined with The Smashing Pumpkins in a landmark collaboration, before closing with an unstoppable encore of ‘Suburban Requiem’.

The night’s most poignant moment came with ‘Changes’, dedicated to Ozzy Osbourne. “Is this anybody’s first ever Yungblud show? Well, welcome to the family, man,” he told the audience. “This community, this family, and rock and roll are all about love. Ozzy Osbourne’s about love. Yungblud is about love. You, tonight, are about love.”

His closing words underscored just how much the homecoming meant to him. “I cannot believe that this community, this family, is getting this big,” he said. “I could f*cking cry right now. You mean everything to me.” The night comes just weeks after his manager Tommas Arnby was named International Music Manager of the Year at MUSEXPO 2026 in California, further recognition of the team behind one of British rock’s most unstoppable acts.

Support on the tour comes from The Warning and The Molotovs, the London teenage sibling band who have been picking up momentum on the UK live circuit. The 11-date run, which also takes in Belfast, Dublin, and all major UK cities, concludes at Manchester’s AO Arena on April 25.
