Esteemed singer-songwriter Elton John has confirmed plans for a unique and transformative performance during his set at Glastonbury 2023. This news, announced during a recent interview with BBC Radio One, indicates a significant departure from his previous live appearances. Elton John is scheduled to perform on Sunday, the final night of Glasto (June 25).
The ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour was initially slated to end in 2021, providing the 76-year-old musician with an opportunity to spend more time with his family. However, unforeseen circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a subsequent hip injury led to a necessary rescheduling of the tour’s closing dates. This will be his final ever show in the UK.
Elton John, affectionately known as the ‘Rocketman’ to his fans, shared his intent to conclude his live tour career with a remarkable final act. In particular, he emphasized the unique nature of the upcoming Sunday set, which is being designed as a “completely new show”.
“I’m beginning with a song I haven’t performed for nearly a decade,” John noted. “The setlist is ready, rehearsal dates with guest artists are arranged – we’re just praying for good weather now.”

While John refrained from disclosing the identities of his guest artists for the Glastonbury performance, fan speculation has been fueled by his final US show in 2022. That event, hosted at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, included surprise appearances from acclaimed artists such as Brandi Carlile and pop sensation Dua Lipa.
Moreover, Sir Elton confirmed that the setlist for Glastonbury has been significantly reimagined to engage and excite his audience in novel ways. “It’s a distinct departure from the familiar performances of my ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour,” he explained.
John further confessed feeling slightly overwhelmed by the prospect of headlining Glastonbury, a festival he has never attended. He stated, “It’s a bit intimidating. I haven’t played there, I haven’t been there.” However, he acknowledged that the updated tour dates were well-timed, and he expressed his faith in the serendipitous nature of the rescheduling.
Elton John will share the Glastonbury 2023 headline with Arctic Monkeys and Guns N’ Roses. Other confirmed acts for the festival include Lizzo, Wizkid, Lil Nas X, Chvrches, Lana Del Rey, and The War On Drugs.
