British legends The Cure announced for Roskilde Festival 2026

The Cure

British rock legends The Cure have been announced as a major addition to Roskilde Festival’s 2026 line-up, with the iconic band set to perform on Wednesday 1 July. The performance marks a significant milestone as The Cure celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2026, and they’ll be among the very first acts to perform on the festival’s newly expanded main stage.

Roskilde Festival, Northern Europe’s largest festival and one of the most influential in the world, continues to strengthen its 2026 programme following the recent reveal of initial headliners including Gorillaz, Ethel Cain, Sierra Ferrell, and ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U. The addition of The Cure underscores the festival’s commitment to presenting both global icons and boundary-pushing new artists, with the band’s performance described as “a truly historic moment” by Thomas Sønderby Jepsen, Head of Music at Roskilde Festival.

Yesterday, Roskilde Festival unveiled the first 24 acts for its 2026 edition, featuring a diverse lineup spanning 10 countries across five continents. The initial announcement confirmed Gorillaz as headline performers and included Grammy Award-winning artist Sierra Ferrell, Mercury Prize-nominated rapper Pa Salieu, and Japanese DJ ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U, among others. Today’s confirmation of The Cure demonstrates the festival’s ongoing commitment to delivering a world-class programme that brings generations together through music.

“The Cure is one of the most distinctive and beloved bands in rock history,” Jepsen explained. “They’ve played our festival many times, and each time they’ve created a magical atmosphere that unites the entire festival community across generations. To welcome them back to our new Orange Stage next summer, in the same year they celebrate 50 years as a band, will be a truly historic moment.”

Formed in 1976, The Cure released their debut album Three Imaginary Boys in 1979 and have since established themselves as pioneers of goth rock and post-punk. The band, led by the charismatic Robert Smith, has created timeless classics including the albums Pornography and Disintegration, alongside iconic songs such as ‘Just Like Heaven’, ‘Friday I’m In Love’ and ‘Boys Don’t Cry’. After a 16-year hiatus from album releases, The Cure returned in 2024 with Songs of a Lost World, which received widespread critical acclaim and marked a triumphant return for the legendary group.
