Lewis Capaldi’s Hyde Park triumph: Sam Fender joins for emotional duet in “biggest ever” headline show

Lewis Capaldi played to over 65,000 people at BST Hyde Park on Saturday 11 July, in what has been dubbed the biggest headline show of his career, with Sam Fender joining him on stage for a duet of Rein Me In.

The 90-minute set, broadcast live on Capaldi and BST Hyde Park’s YouTube channel, arrived at the midpoint of the singer’s two-night residency at the Great Oak Stage. “Hi Hyde Park, I’m Lewis Capaldi and it’s f**ing good to be here,” he told the crowd early on, admitting nerves before the size of the audience sank in. “Thank God the first three songs are done, I was f**ing sh*tting myself.”

Capaldi opened with Hollywood, Grace and Heavenly Kind of State of Mind before working through a hit-heavy set including Wish You The Best, Love The Hell Out Of You and Bruises, his first ever single from 2017. He also referenced Pitbull’s headline slot the previous night at the festival, joking about the “buzz” of the Friday show before the crowd sang along en masse to Hotel Room Service.

The standout moment of the night came just past the halfway mark, when Capaldi introduced Sam Fender as his special guest, noting that the pair both released their debut singles on the same day back in 2017. Fender joined him for Rein Me In, his collaboration with Olivia Dean, which had broken the record as the longest-running number one single of all time by a British act just the day before. This marks a full-circle friendship for two artists who broke through together at Neighbourhood Weekender, where both are counted among the festival’s most successful alumni.

The emotional peaks of the evening came during The Day That I Die, when Capaldi choked up and the crowd carried him through the song with chants of “Oh, Lewis Capaldi,” and during the encore, when Someone You Loved closed out the night. “Thank you so much for sticking with me,” Capaldi told the audience. “After this, I’m going to go away for a while and I’ll make a new album for everybody.”

Saturday’s headline slot capped a remarkable comeback for the Scottish star, who returned from a hiatus with a surprise Glastonbury set in 2025 before being confirmed as the first ever headliner of the new Roundhay Festival in Leeds just a week before his BST Hyde Park shows. His BST booking was announced back in September, with organisers hailing him as fast becoming “a legend for a new generation.”

Main support came from Californian singer-songwriter Conan Gray, personally invited by Capaldi to join the bill as part of his Wishbone World Tour, performing tracks including The Cut That Always Bleeds and Family Line. The Vaccines also played, with frontman Justin Hayward-Young calling it “an honour” for a London band to play what he described as the capital’s biggest stage, closing with All My Friends Are Falling In Love.

Folk artist Jacob Alon, the Brit Awards 2026 Critics’ Choice Award winner, delivered a haunting set of tracks from their Mercury-nominated album In Limerence, including Confession and closing favourite Fairy In A Bottle. South London singer-songwriter Absolutely, whose older sister is Raye, opened with material from her latest album Paracosm.

The Rainbow Stage presented by British Airways was headlined by Shropshire-based Nieve Ella, who has previously supported Girl In Red and the Courteeners. Also appearing across the day were Tyler Ballgame, sibling trio Neckbreakers, Benjamin Steer, Kerr Mercer, Luz, Luke La Volpe and Sebastian Croft.

Capaldi’s BST Hyde Park run forms part of a stacked 2026 line-up at the London festival, which also included Garth Brooks, ATEEZ, Maroon 5, Mumford & Sons, Duran Duran and Pitbull. He returns for his second and final Hyde Park headline show on Sunday 12 July.
