Wolf Alice are strongly rumoured for a place on this summer’s Glastonbury line-up as freshly announced tour dates include a gap over the weekend of the festival.
Last week, Wolf Alice were announced as the support act for the European leg of Harry Styles’ tour, beginning on Sunday 26th June in Hamburg. With this being Glastonbury’s final day, fans lucky enough to have secured tickets are hoping Wolf Alice could be booked to appear on Friday or Saturday.
As the band prepared to headline Glastonbury’s Pilton Party event towards the end of summer 2019, festival founder Michael Eavis said they will “definitely be on next year’s Glastonbury line-up for sure.”
Pilton Party is an annual ‘thank you’ event organised by Glastonbury for local residents and workers. Artists appearing at Pilton Party typically feature on the line-up for the next Glastonbury Festival – which is still yet to take place owing to coronavirus restrictions and is now set for June 2022.
In Spring 2021, Wolf Alice opened Glastonbury’s live stream event with a set from the Stone Circle.
Speaking to Bristol Live, Eavis continued: “Wolf Alice are a really fantastic band. They were so good at the Pilton Party in 2015 and then again on the Pyramid Stage in 2016. It’s no wonder they won the Mercury last year. They were really keen to come and play the party for us again. We love hosting bands who want to play it and they’re just so fantastic live.”
Harry Styles was also already rumoured to feature on the line-up before those tour dates were revealed, with the appearance of a “Glasto-gap” in their schedules boosting hopes both Harry Styles and Wolf Alice are set to appear.
Supergrass, who reformed on the morning of 2019’s Pilton Party to feature as special guests, are also rumoured to appear.
As it stands, only Billie Eilish and Diana Ross have been officially confirmed by Glastonbury organisers as part of the line-up.
However, a few other artists have self-confirmed their place, including Crowded House, Craig Charles, Papaphone and Black Dyke Band. The latter will open the Pyramid Stage on Sunday morning.
Billie Eilish will be the youngest ever Pyramid Stage headliner, at 20 years old when she performs on the Friday night. Diana Ross will take the Pyramid’s Sunday afternoon ‘Legends Slot’.
Oasis, The Chemical Brothers, The Spice Girls and George Ezra are also rumoured to appear.
The full line-up is usually revealed towards the end of May, just a few weeks before the festival, although more artists are often confirmed from February.
Glastonbury 2022 will take place from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th June at Worthy Farm near Pilton, Somerset. Tickets sold out ahead of the cancelled 2020 festival, though a resale of cancelled tickets will take place before the event.
