The company which owns Glastonbury Festival’s iconic ‘Cider Bus’ have said they’re “really excited to see Wolf Alice headline the main stage at Glastonbury Festival this year.”
UPDATE: We’ve since been in touch with Somerset Cider Brandy who told us their social media post was made in error as they were looking at the 2021 line-up.
Last summer, Wolf Alice opened the billing for Glastonbury’s Live At Worthy Farm live stream event. As explained here, we still think the chances they’ll end up on the Glasto line-up for 2022 are pretty good.
Somerset Cider Brandy, who have sold their Burrow Hill Cider at the festival “since the very beginning”, shared a photo of the band “drinking our ten-year-old Cider Brandy a few years ago when they were writing their album” on their Facebook page this morning.
So far, the only Pyramid headliner officially confirmed is Billie Eilish, who will be Glasto’s youngest ever Pyramid headliner at 20 years old when she performs on the Friday night.
Wolf Alice were already heavily rumoured to appear on the Glastonbury line-up this summer and it now sounds as though they’re set to headline the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night. They’ll be unavailable on the Sunday as they’ve already announced a gig in Germany, supporting Harry Styles.
As Wolf Alice prepared to headline Glastonbury’s Pilton Party event towards the end of summer 2019, festival founder Michael Eavis said they will “definitely be on next year’s Glastonbury line-up for sure.”
Pilton Party is an annual ‘thank you’ event organised by Glastonbury for local residents and workers. Artists appearing at Pilton Party typically feature on the line-up for the next Glastonbury Festival – which is still yet to take place owing to coronavirus restrictions and is now set for June 2022.
In Spring 2021, Wolf Alice opened Glastonbury’s live stream event with a set from the Stone Circle.
Speaking to Bristol Live, Eavis continued: “Wolf Alice are a really fantastic band. They were so good at the Pilton Party in 2015 and then again on the Pyramid Stage in 2016. It’s no wonder they won the Mercury last year. They were really keen to come and play the party for us again. We love hosting bands who want to play it and they’re just so fantastic live.”
Supergrass, who reformed on the morning of 2019’s Pilton Party to feature as special guests, are also rumoured to appear.
As it stands, only Billie Eilish, Diana Ross, Little Simz, The Strays and R.A.E. have been officially confirmed by Glastonbury organisers as part of the line-up – with 2020 Emerging Talent Competiton runners-up ADIMAL and Matilda Mann also expected to appear.
Organiser Emily Eavis has revealed the main Glastonbury 2022 line-up poster will be released in March.
However, a few other artists have self-confirmed their place, including Crowded House, Craig Charles, Confidence Man, Papaphone, Courtney Barnett and Black Dyke Band. The latter will open the Pyramid Stage on Sunday morning.
Billie Eilish will be the youngest ever Pyramid Stage headliner, at 20 years old when she performs on the Friday night. Diana Ross will take the Pyramid’s Sunday afternoon ‘Legends Slot’.
Harry Styles has also been rumoured to appear – as have The Chemical Brothers, The Lathums, George Ezra and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
The full line-up is usually revealed towards the end of May, just a few weeks before the festival, although more artists are often confirmed from February.
Glastonbury 2022 will take place from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th June at Worthy Farm near Pilton, Somerset. Tickets sold out ahead of the cancelled 2020 festival, though a resale of cancelled tickets will take place before the event.
